Enviro Day

Today we had an amazing, sunny day, doing loads of awesome enviro projects.

In Totara, Su took an integrated technology/science group to create a second floating duck house prototype.

In Manuka, Mr Shore took a group to finish levelling the dirt patch on the top field and grass seed it. The group then designed keep off signs on Canva.

Whaea Kaiya took the refuse and recycling team to make scrambled duck egg sandwiches to share around the school.

In Kauri, Rob took a group to design and build hawk scarers to protect our ducks in their pond habitat.

Scrambled Eggs

Today we found where our ducks have been hiding their eggs. We found over 30 eggs in the cutty grass by the pond. Whaea Kaiya took a group to cook scrambled eggs and then another group kindly shared the scrambled egg sandwiches among the classes. We've even got lots left for breakfast club next week!

Integrated Curriculum

Today Torara, Manuka and Kauri joined forces to do some real life deadline problem solving. We needed to calculate the perimeter of the duck pond so that we could then find the best price for shade cloth to keep the ducks in asap. The winning group was Stacey and Ava got the best price of $220 for 150 meters including delivery. They won lunch with whaea Kaiya for getting such a good deal!

The group with Mr Shaw calculated that we needed 1kg of grass seed to patch the dirt where the concrete beds were. This costs just over $20.

First Enviroday of Term 3

On Friday we had a great day working on some of our enviro jobs. In Rob's group we demolished the concrete raised beds on the top field to make more safe playing room. A big thank you to Andy Fleming and Matt Gruebner who helped with the sledge hammering. We are going to make a rock garden with all of the leftover rubble to support our native plants and small creatures.
