Enviro Day 25,9,20

A really warm and sunny day today. We worked really hard to finish the floating duck house, finish the shelter and finish the bridges. We capped the day off with ape crumble and ice cream!

What an awesome class!

This morning we patiently waited for whanau to come and look at our pet day art. Doesn't the classroom look tidy?

Alice's dad kindly gave us a lesson on 'old fashioned' ways to work out multiplying 2 digit numbers!

Kerikeri Garden Safari

This week we have been busy starting to prepare for the Kerikeri Garden Safari in early November. This year we are selling Kanuka Honey, however we are glad to be joined by Kowhai who are making bee tea towels and Rimu who are making beeswax wraps! Thanks also to Hayly Foster for helping us to work out profit and costs for 100 teatowels.

Our Ducks

Yesterday we found three large stashes of duck eggs. We rushed them down to test, however most floated which meant they were no good. We then rushed them back up to the nests so that they might hopefully hatch into ducklings!

Enviro Day 11/9/2020

Today was another magic, sunny Enviroday. We accomplished lots together. Su's group made the second prototype floating duck house. Whaea Meg's group cut down the wilding pines. Whaea Petrina's group moved the soil at the back gate and Rob's group fenced the duck pond. Whaea Kaiya also made scrambled duck eggs with a group of students.

Wonderment and Awe

In Kauri class we understand that it is important to celebrate our success with each other. We love to get excited about our learning! Here we are showing wonderment and awe for our onomatopoeia words!

Empathy and Understanding

One of the 16 Habits of Mind that Kauri class are experts at is showing empathy and understanding. We take time to think about others and care for them respectfully. Here we are showing our ducks how much we love caring for them.

Talk to Write

In Kauri class we have really enjoyed learning new writing skills though talk to write. Everyone has shared success and is making accelerated progress. To find out more you can come in and join in at writing time or ask anyone from Kauri class, they all love to talk about it!

Upcycled Spelling

While we are waiting for our new writing books to arrive we have been coming up with some new ways to practice our spelling words!

Spring has Sprung

It really feels like winter is behind us now. We have been growing Manuka seeds in the school shade house and after a very wet winter and some nice sunshine last week they are starting to shoot up!

Managing Impulsivity

In Kauri class we strive to be mindful and manage our impulsively. We were really put to the test this week when a stray cat strolled in while we were all sitting on the mat. The class managed themselves amazingly and we were able to continue our learning without being distracted. Well done Kauri!

Librarians

Last week Mrs Hobbs was away, so our awesome librarians stood in to issue books out. Well done Amiria and Norah!
