Last term kauri class started preparing for chickens. We were kindly donated a chicken coop from Zoe's dad and we used some of Mr A's spare fencing for the run.
It has been a bit of a learning curve as we had Cecil's pet chicken come and test our chicken run. Unfortunately she escaped in the first weekend.
The project goal is to get enough eggs to supply our breakfast club. Kai Ora have kindly awarded $1000 towards our chicken run project so watch this space for further developments!
We think we will need to spend some of the money on a new fence to begin with!
Hi,
ReplyDeleteWhat a very flash chicken coop. You are very lucky to be able to have chickens at your school. How did you make the fence around the chicken coop? How did the chicken get out? I hope you found it! What are you going to spend the $1000 on?
You will have to show it to me next time I am at school.

Hi Donna
ReplyDeleteThanks for your message. We made the fence with some old warratahs and chicken wire. The chicken got out because we didn't clip the wing far back enough and the fence was too low. The $1000 will go towards a better fence!
Kia ora. I am Francesca from St Mary’s School.
ReplyDeleteI really liked it because It makes a connection to our school because we have two chickens and a big big coop.
I learnt that you need to clip the chicken's wings before you put them in a coop. What is the breakfast club?
Maybe you could get more chickens for your chicken coop.

ReplyDeleteThank you for your message. We are hoping to supply eggs on toast for our breakfast club before school. We have since moved to ducks but they are still not laying! What do you make with your eggs?
